It's been a long time since I have posted anything. Things are humming along wonderfully with my daughter and her family. Christmas was all I could have ever dreamed of with my grandchildren.
In the meantime, the young life of my stepson seems to be spiraling out of control. We have received this rare email from his mother over the weekend because we have tried to reach him to wish him a happy 21st birthday, however without any luck or response. This is great cause for concern:
"This time he was arrested on March 5th around 3:30 in morning. He called me Thursday night around 7 wanting out. This time is DUI, simple possession, and financial responsibility. I asked him what happen and he don't know just woke up in jail. While I was talking to the bail bondsman A walked over to the Road Runner and Bought him a quart. He has a hearing status on the 11th @ 1:30. He said they told him he will have to pay $300 for the appointed lawyer. A said at the arraignment the DA is wanting him to at least pull a minimum 45 days in jail. He is out on bond for another DUI in December, when he totaled my Explorer. He is suppose to have court on that one March 25th. He was charged DUI. He failed the sobriety test, they said they were going to take him to hospital for blood test but don't know if they did or not. The lawyer wants to see the video, A had taken extra medication, he is going to try and get that one dropped to DUI under 21, which he says the penalty and fines are not as high. He is also on unsupervised probation for leaving the scene of an accident. He has totaled his Nissan, my Explorer, and I found him a $600 Subaru for him to make payments to me on and now that is totaled. The good news: He is not hurt. He missed the curve, I guess, on Greenwood Drive going to turn on Lone Oak went over a rock and busted 2 tires, windshield, and not sure what else. He car was not impounded so we went and got his stuff and gave them the title. Went by where he wrecked and nothing was tore up or needed to be fixed.
When he wrecked the Nissan, the police came up here beating my door down. He wrecked on Treadway Trial. Hit a guardrail head on. They looked in barns and fields for him but couldn't find him. Told me if we called him when A showed up he would just charge him with misdemeanor. He showed up that Saturday afternoon. Scared to death, woke up with the woods and didn't know how he got there. Had a scrape on his hand and lost his glasses. When we went to get his stuff out of the car you would wonder how he was not killed. Looking for his glasses the wrecker man put on his gloves and peeled the windshield of the dashboard and there laid his glasses unharmed. It was like they had been folded up and sat there. I told A he survived that wreck for a reason and either God's hand was over him or his guardian angels were with him.
Now he feels like he is to far gone.... I told him you are never to far gone until you are 6 feet under. He is at the bottom and he can make changes and do what ever he wants. It seems he likes to focus on the negative, which gives him a reason to drink, instead of the positive. I told him I didn't raise him like that. Sorry to rattle, I know this is not your problem. I probably shouldn't have said anything."
We bought him the Nissan last September because he wanted to go to trade school and needed a ride. He had previously totaled his truck. Since we don't have much contact, we did not even know that he had wrecked that car and that his life has been unravelling like this since then...

My heart breaks with you. Nothing tugs at our hearts as much as seeing those we love act in these ways.
Thank you, Bob. It is truly heartbreaking to see such a young life wasting away.
That is so sad. Is his DOC alcohol and pills? My son is 3 1/2 months on vivitrol and it has helped him so much. He still struggles and it is not easy, but the shot has almost eliminated all of his cravings for alcohol and opiates & Heroin. My son tried for over one year to get sober and no matter what happened he could never make it past 30 days - finally he came to us and said he just can't do this on his own and wanted the shot. Took 3 years from the time we told him about it but he had to be ready.
I hope your stepson finds what he needs to help him soon.
Thank you Tori. Yes his DOC is alcohol and pills. I am afraid he will himself and someone else while driving drunk...
I feel your pain. I will be following your blog and offering support when needed.
Please feel free to visit my blog/web as well.
